Ideas

So I’ve been working this idea of reconstituting the 100 images as or in to a slide format. There is something about having a tangible object in your hands that makes the whole experience of creating an archive more real.

So as I have said in my last post I am interested in the notion of archives as being physical objects and in order to get this project on its feet I’ve decided to take the 100 images and print them on to inkjet acetate paper and put them in to slide mounts. I had thought about putting exporting the images into sides and after calling a few places I realized that it wasn’t economical to do so. Hence printing on acetate paper. The are some disadvantages to using this paper one being that image quality is not very good, also there is a dot texture that reveals itself when magnified. But again this is a leaping point for the direction that I want to take the project to.

As the 100 archive project approaches I have been thinking recently about the notion of the archive being dated.  That is to say that the function of the archive has become increasingly in effective with newer advancements in technologies. When I say that the notion of the archive is dated I mean that the idea of taking older information and storing it in a box has become irrelevant to the more fluid method of working today.
